Possibly dating back to Roman times, Coombe was listed in the Domesday Book as having 3 manors. In the 16th century, springs on Coombe hill were channelled to Hampton Court Palace to feed its fountains and waterworks. The Coombe Hill water pump system was abandoned in 1900. The area lies to the south of Richmond Park, with Wimbledon Common to the east. Coombe is a neighbourhood of Greater London, and lies within the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. Coombe lies adjacent to Merton, Sutton, Wandsworth and Richmond.
