The Benefits of Having Up-to-Date PC Drivers

Computers have several essential components-there’s the hardware and the operating system of course, but there are also small pieces of software called drivers. Drivers are small software applications which allow hardware to communicate with the rest of the computer. Essentially, the drivers of a piece of hardware, such as a video card, act as a sort of bridge between the video card and the computer, providing the hardware with a set of instructions which tell it how to operate.

Computer drivers are, therefore, absolutely essential for all your devices. It’s essential also to understand how to keep your computer’s drivers up-to-date. You can quickly see if you have outdated or even corrupted drivers on your PC by going to the device manager panel on your PC’s properties menu. Devices with red or yellow icons next to them indicate outdated or corrupt drivers. Outdated drivers can reduce your computer’s performance potential and may even cause serious problems.

Another essential concept is different types of drivers your PC may use. Some pieces of hardware in your computer may use Windows drivers-a default set of drivers which were installed when your operating system was installed. Other pieces of hardware, such as your video card and sound card, may use their own set of drivers. Whether you’re using Windows drivers or specific hardware drivers, it’s important to ensure they’re up-to-date, both to optimize your PC and to prevent crashes and other problems.

One of the most important reasons to keep your drivers up-to-date is simply that computer component manufacturing companies-particularly those which make video cards-release new and improved versions of drivers which improve the way the hardware operates. Updating the drivers for your video or sound card often improve the performance of the card and your entire computer, and may even provide you with some new features for the hardware.

Additionally, keeping your drivers up-to-date will help prevent crashes, because old and outdated drivers are more likely to become corrupt. When this happens the associated hardware may stop performing correctly-and this can often cause your computer to crash while carrying out certain operations.

Finally, if your computer is simply performing sluggishly, or there’s something wrong and your efforts to determine the source of the problem haven’t yet paid off, checking for new versions of the drivers your computer uses can often provide a solution.

Reason why you may want a Custom PC

We all use our computers for different reason. Some for professional purposes, some of us have hobbies that we carry out online, many are serious gamers. Just a few reasons why the average PC may not be quite up to scratch. A custom built PC gives you the power to take control over how effective your computer is in carrying out what YOU need it to.

The ability to specify your requirements, and have someone tailor the hardware immediately gives you the advantage over the standard package that everyone else has. By going down the custom route you should also have the ability to “future proof” your computer which means you have it for a lot longer. Lets look at some reasons why you may need a custom computer:

Gaming is huge sector of the computer industry. The limits of performance are continually being stretched with each new release, and the only way to cope with this is with a PC that has been custom built for this purpose. Superior specifications are required to run the games, and gamers often go for a cool PC case which lights up or glows to add to the gaming experience.

Gamers love speed. They seek out motherboards with fast system buses and forward compatibility (upgrading the CPU and RAM as newer, faster models become available). They stuff that motherboard with the fastest processor they can find and all the memory they can squeeze into it. After that, a powerful video card with its own graphics processor is crucial to make full use of the game’s realistic visual effects. Those are the essentials, but nice speakers and two big monitors never hurt.

Fancy the idea of becoming the hottest new DJ or music producer? The possibilities are almost endless for what you can achieve on your own computer, but only if it is built to be capable of doing what you need it to. Obviously sound is a priority, with a top of the range sound card and fancy speakers, but you will also need a high specification processor, particluarly if you are mixing different tracks.

Whether as a hobby or a profession, video editing can now be done from the comfort of your own home. With the advancement of digital technology both the camera’s used for recording and the software used for editing, the results that you can achieve can rival what was only previously achievable with extremely high specification (and huge cost) systems. This still means that you need the correct memory and capability to run the software, but this is a lot more achievable and affordable than ever thought possible.

For a motherboard, inexpensive solutions usually have more built-in options directly on the motherboard, such as graphics and audio support. What this means is that it can be more difficult to upgrade in the future. Whilst they may be cheaper now, to keep pace with technological developments it is important that right from the outset you have the right motherboard. Generally you won’t have a choice of a motherboard in a standard system.

The situations whereby a custom built PC is not just a “nice to have” but a necessity are varied, and the above are just three of those.
